Pastor Peter Morlock

“Lord, you have been our dwelling place from one generation to another.” (Psalm 90 verse 1)

150 years ago settlers in our corner of the prairie founded a congregation that is now known as Lost Island Lutheran Church.  There have been many changes over the years but the congregation’s proclamation and commitment to the communities we serve has not changed, though these days we may be characterized as “small but mighty.”  Our roots go deep in this place, and we hope to be here for many years to come.

My name is Peter Morlock.  I grew up in Southeast MN not too far from here. It has been my privilege to serve as Pastor for Lost Island, and our partner congregation of Bethany in Emmetsburg since early 2014.  I attended college at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, (B.A. 1990) and Luther Seminary in St. Paul. (M-div.1994)  I was ordained into the Ministry of the ELCA in 1994.  Prior to coming to Northwest Iowa, I served congregations in Elmira and Albany, NY, before moving back to the midwest and serving as a long term care chaplain in St. Paul, MN for almost 10 years.

My wife, Kris Hackbart, and I have three children- Noah, Jonah and Avon- , and various pets.  Our family very much enjoys this community and the opportunities it provides for  sharing talents and trying something new.  We enjoy community theater, and attending the various school events in Ruthven and Emmetsburg.

I invite you to come and see what we are all about, and perhaps become a part of this vibrant energetic and fun community of faith.  You can join us for worship at 8:45 on Sunday mornings, and stay for fellowship and Sunday school afterwards; You can come to one of our special events, like the Annual Ice Cream Social during Bully Bullhead Weekend, or our Soup Supper in the fall.  However you find us, you will always find a warm welcome and a place for you to grow in your life of faith.
